The soul as a source of inspiration
After art school I mainly made pen drawings in which atmosphere was a central theme. After that I felt the need to paint more freely with acrylic and oil paint. People in their emotions, their actions and behavior become the source of inspiration in both abstract and realistic form. In the nineties I focused more on mythological figures as a metaphor to make visible the battle of the titans that rages (in)visibly in every human being. In this way I tried to connect the inner and outer world, sometimes in harmony, then again full of tension. Later the attention in my work shifted to the meeting of light and dark, the fight in man between delusion and reality. In the years that followed, mythology returned to my work. At that time I mainly focused on Egyptian mythology, in which rituals around death and the afterlife were the subjects. Recently, women in all their manifestations, for example in portraits, have returned. Sometimes I divide a composition into different parts that each breathe their own atmosphere. This can be done in one work, but also with multiple panels. I live and work as a visual artist in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
